RYP Event — Russia’s Presidential Elections

Description
Russia will conduct the first round of its 2018 presidential elections on March 18. If, as expected, Vladimir Putin receives a majority vote — thanks in part to his firm control of the media, the disqualification of an opposition candidate and broad domestic support — he will be eligible to serve as the country’s leader until 2024. Given the Russian government’s increasingly assertive actions over the past decade, what are the geopolitical implications of another Putin presidency? How will Russia’s hybrid warfare strategies — including the use of energy as a weapon for coercive diplomacy — play out in the coming years?
Join the Baker Institute Roundtable Young Professionals (RYP) for an engaging conversation with two experts on Russian government, the oil industry and geopolitics.
